Is QR code pairing secure?
Yes: data sent from your phone to your TV is end-to-end encrypted, so the relay that carries it between the two devices can't read it.
Nipo doesn’t provide, sell or host any channel, movie or playlist: it plays what you already own.
When you scan a QR code to add a playlist or transfer your setup, the information passes through a relay server — but that server can't read it.
How it works
- The QR code shown on the TV contains an encryption key generated locally, unique to that pairing.
- Your phone encrypts the information (a playlist, or your full setup) with that key before sending it.
- The relay only passes along this encrypted data: it never holds the key and so can't read it.
- Only your TV, which showed the QR code and knows the key, can decrypt what it receives.
Tip
This end-to-end encryption is the same for adding a playlist, transferring to a new device and the phone-as-remote feature: in all three cases, only your two devices can read what's exchanged, never our servers. A pairing code expires after a few minutes to limit the risk if a QR code were ever seen by someone else.
